Housed in a carefully preserved heritage building, Ferment the Orange Wine Centre, has a sleek contemporary European interior emphatically announcing that the Orange wine scene has arrived. Traditionally a more boutique region than some of Australia’s major wine-producing belts, Orange has retained its historic charm and interest while quietly benefiting from modern winemaking methods.

The Wine Man

PETER BOURNE @ FERMENT

Peter Bourne is known simply as The Wine Man. He earned this name from over 40 years as a professional ‘drinker’ and his highly respected hands-on experience as a fine wine retailer, wine writer and wine educator. Peter holds regular wine tastings during the year at Ferment. These include Gourmet Traveller Tasting nights 6 times a year. Customers can book for any of these events. Universally known as “The Wine Man” Peter Bourne has been involved in the Australian wine industry for over 35 years – initially as a fine wine merchant and more recently as a full-time industry consultant. Peter’s principal focus is on wine education – presenting a wide variety of wine appreciation courses and specialised wine tastings.

Peter hosts numerous trade and consumer events along with high-end corporate wine evenings. Peter’s reputation as one of Australia’s leading wine educators was cemented by winning the 2010 Wine Communicator of the Year – the prestigious award presented by his wine industry peers at Wine Communicators of Australia.

Peter is a founding member of the Gourmet Traveller WINE team and is a regular contributor to the QANTAS in-flight magazine, The Australian Way.
